Samaritan's Purse Park Groundbreaking

Lancaster, CA. April 4, 2024 - The City of Lancaster announced the revitalization of a cherished community park during a groundbreaking ceremony on April 3. Formerly known as El Dorado Park, the park has been renamed Samaritan’s Purse Park, honoring the impactful work of the Samaritan’s Purse organization in Lancaster.

“This park has been an integral part of life for the local community. Now, its new name and the new life brought by renovations will stand as a renewed source of inspiration,” said Mayor R. Rex Parris. “This park’s renovation is not just an upgrade of its physical attributes but a reinforcement of our commitment to fostering a supportive, engaged, and active community.”

In addition to the renaming of the park, there is a vibrant renovation plan to enhance its facilities and overall appeal. As part of these efforts, extensive community outreach was conducted to enable residents to contribute their input regarding the new park name and to prioritize improvements based on feedback.

The decision to rename the site Samaritan’s Purse Park came from a suggestion by a resident deeply impressed by the organization's remarkable humanitarian efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic. In collaboration with the City and Antelope Valley Hospital, Samaritan’s Purse established a temporary field hospital that provided crucial care to over 167 individuals in need.

“The incredible dedication of Samaritan’s Purse serves as an inspiration, reminding us all to embody the spirit of the Good Samaritan in our daily lives. This dedication isn't just a call to action for our community; it's a message we pass on to our children, teaching them the value of kindness and compassion through the story behind this park's name. We are proud to dedicate this park to their efforts, hopeful that their legacy of selflessness and service will continue to inspire and uplift our city for generations to come,” Parris said.

Construction on this project will commence this fall and is projected to be completed by 2027.
