Lancaster, CA. June 11, 2024 – Prepare for a celebration of joy, power, and unity as community partners and the City of Lancaster host the third annual Juneteenth celebration! Join us at Sgt. Steve Owen Memorial Park on Sunday, June 16 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. for a jam-packed day of food, roller skating, education, and live music, including a special performance by the legendary R&B, hip-hop queen, Michel’le.

The free event will bring local businesses, organizations, and community members throughout the Antelope Valley together to celebrate freedom and spread hope.

This year’s Juneteenth event will include a morning worship service, a student art exhibit, food, music, entertainment, dancing, games, a foam party, a car show, and lots of free family-friendly fun.

“Juneteenth is a day for us to come together as a community to honor the past, celebrate the progress we’ve made, and recommit to the work that still lies ahead,” said Mayor R. Rex Parris. “I am incredibly proud of Lancaster’s dedication to recognizing and uplifting the rich cultural heritage of our African American residents.”

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865—the date that enslaved people in the last Confederate state learned of their freedom. That day in Galveston, Texas, followed by the passage of the 13th Amendment, officially marked the end of slavery in the United States.

The Lancaster Juneteenth Community Partnership, which consists of residents, organizations, businesses, and the City of Lancaster, plans Lancaster’s annual Juneteenth celebration. The partnership is dedicated to educating the community about the importance of Juneteenth and Black History as American History.
