City of Lancaster Awarded More Than 8.4 Million Dollar Grant to Renovate El Dorado Park

City’s Spectacular Proposal Secures Funds From “California Outdoors For All” Program Grant

Post Date:12/22/2021

Lancaster, CA. December 22, 2021–The City of Lancaster is pleased to announce California State Parks has awarded the City more than $8.4 million to complete a full renovation and upgrade of El Dorado Park as part of the Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization program.

As part of the California Outdoors for All initiative, which aims to give all Californians access to parks and open space, Lancaster is one of more than 100 communities that received a total of $548.3 million in grant funding to improve and create new parks. This is the largest single investment in expanding access to parks in underserved communities in the state’s history.

With more than 460 applications submitted, the proposal by Lancaster’s Parks, Arts, Recreation & Community Services (PARCS) team was selected for funding based upon its exceptional plan to transform El Dorado Park and bring a myriad of recreational opportunities to our residents.

“While the City is immensely proud of our 20 parks and open spaces, our goal is to make sure every resident has easy access to parks and the great outdoors,” Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris said. “Parks, green space, and public amenities bring joy and connection to a community, so we are eager to get started on this impressive improvement project. I am grateful to the City staff that created an exciting proposal and to California State Parks for awarding us this opportunity to bring more fun and recreation to El Dorado Park."

With this grant, Lancaster will begin the work to construct a new community center, a half-court basketball court, a splash pad, a skate spot, a plaza with tables, two picnic shelters, pathways, and more in El Dorado Park. Crews will also be renovating and expanding a playground, including a new swing set and inclusive play equipment, as well as a jogging path and exercise stations. The entire park will also get plenty of lighting, landscaping, and seating to make the park safe and accessible for all.

Because of the park’s proximity to El Dorado Elementary School, the renovations and improvements will allow Lancaster families to easily enjoy these new amenities. In addition, the range of equipment and activities invite residents of any age or capability to appreciate the outdoors and open space as well as improve Lancaster community members’ daily lives.
